Construction Management

Welcome to our Construction Management Program! This eight-week program results in two Construction Management certifications. Students gain foundational skills in reading blueprints, managing and constructing building projects, coordinating work teams, and understanding essential safety standards and building codes.

Program Details:

  • Duration: June 8, 2026 – August 28, 2026
  • Credentials: Two Non-Credit Continuing Education Occupational Skills Awards (OSAs) leading to Level 1 Certificates in Construction Management.
  • Cost: $5,000
  • Scholarships: 11 full scholarships available upon completion of all courses.

Course Requirements

CE OSA 1: Construction Management Core Competencies

(48 Contact Hours - Mostly online, with possibility of 1-2 in person labs)

Introduction to construction drawings with a focus on residential and light commercial construction. Additionally, this course will include an introduction to computerized prints and related software.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify construction drawing symbols and abbreviations; interpret a set of construction drawings; and correlate elevations, sections, details, plan views, schedules, general notes, and use of architectural and engineering scales.

(48 Contact Hours - In-person)

Introduction to construction materials and methods and their applications. Include basic math (adding, subtracting, multiply, divide)

End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify construction materials; list their applications; and describe the various methods of construction. Explain the development, use, and applications of new materials being introduced to the construction industry under sustainable building concepts.

(48 Contact Hours - Online)

End of Course Outcomes: Identify various construction classifications and occupancy categories; cross reference the guidelines, tables, charts, and specs as presented in the building codes; determine if construction meets building codes and standards. Day trips to Sedalco Construction for students to observe and participate.

CE OSA 2: Construction Management Advanced Skills

(48 Contact Hours - Online) 

Overview of the construction industry and management skills on the job site. Topics include written and oral communications, leadership and motivation, problem solving, and decision making. Add in per industry (Imperial and Sedalco) and grant: Proposal/bid technical writing incl. job qualifications and qualitative part and work ethic. And change orders and project closure.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify types of construction and organizational structures. Explain purposes for various construction documents. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the key players in the building industry. Identify environmental health and safety agency requirements. Identify the various construction crafts and trades; and describe sustainable building practices and standards. Define terms associated with construction supervision, leadership, motivation, problem solving, and decision making. Demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills in construction problems. Apply sustainable building codes and concepts. Demonstrate techniques for successful contractor interaction including professional protocol and communication.

(48 Contact Hours - In-person)

A presentation of the basic mechanical, plumbing and electrical components in construction and their relationship to the overall building. Intern and/or Day Trips to observe with Sedalco Construction and possibly Baker Construction.

(48 Contact Hours - Online)

A study of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction regulations.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify the OSHA regulations which apply to the construction industry; and demonstrate proficiency in retrieving specific information from Title 29 C.F.R. Part 1926 regulations. CIP Code Description: 15.0701 (Occupational Safety and Health  Technology/Technician)
